Does your sharpener do cross-grinding?Updated 12 hours ago
The Cross-Grind Rings are only compatible with our commercial PS-model sharpeners and are not compatible with the Sparx Sharpener 1, 2, or 3 (ES100, ES200, ES300).
When sharpening new steel, repairing damaged steel, or changing to a different hollow, you can use your preferred Grinding Ring and start by running approximately 10 sharpening cycles.
We recommend using a Sharpie or similar marker to draw a line across the heel, center, and toe of the blade. After running a few cycles, inspect the blade to see whether the marker has been removed. Once all of the marker has been removed, the new hollow has been fully established. If any marker remains, continue running a few additional cycles and recheck until it is gone.
We also offer the Sparx Flat Grinding Ring, which is designed to remove an existing hollow from a skate blade, making it easier to establish a new hollow. The specially formulated coarse abrasive of the Flat Grinding Ring allows for quick removal of skate blade damage including deep gouge and nicks. For more information on using the flat ring, please see our article Flat Ring.
